Employees of Savannah-based Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. on Monday presented United Way of the Coastal Empire with a check for $2,725,000 as their contribution to this year’s United Way fund drive.

The donation is up slightly from Gulfstream employees’ 2013 donation of $2.7 million, which, at the time, was the largest single donation in the agency’s 76-year history.

“Gulfstream is pleased with the success of the 2014 United Way campaign and with our employees’ efforts to increase previous donations once again,” said Mark Bennett, senior manager, community investments, Gulfstream.

“The United Way plays a critical role in enhancing our community’s quality of life, and that role that has a direct effect on our employees and their families.”

As United Way’s single largest supporter, Gulfstream employees not only gives generously but also volunteer to make a difference in the lives of others, said United Way president and CEO Gregg Schroeder.

“Gulfstream’s generous support will help us continue investing in critical programs in education and youth development, economic independence and health and wellness,” Schroeder said.

The contribution comes four days before United Way is scheduled to hold its ‘victory celebration’ to announce the total raised during the 2014 fundraising campaign within the agency’s four-county area.

This year’s goal is $8,888,888, and, to date, the campaign has raised $8,110,399 or 91 percent of goal. Last year’s total was $8,731,900.

Friday’s event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Savannah. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $25 apiece or $250 for a table of 10. For more information, visit www.uwce.org.
