BiS in brief: Armstrong, Savannah State co-sponsor ethics symposium

In this month’s BiS magazine:

• Dentist Angela Canfield is working on a board certification for forensic dentistry because She’s long been interested in forensics. When she discovered she could work with forensics using her dental background; “I decided to go for it.”

• Nick Shreves, co-owner of Big Fish Charters since 2012, has beenn a fisherman “my whole life … I love to fish, and I enjoy watching other people catching fish they’ve never caught before.”

• Brian West, with West Rehab & Sports Medicine, says businesses can significantly lower their health care costs related to occupational injuries and illnesses by working with a network of health care providers trained in industrial ergonomics or licensed industrial therapists.

• Accountant Andreja Conway helps business cope with the gift tax, something she calls “one of the most misunderstood tax concepts” with some people not even realizing the federal gift tax and the federal income tax are two separate tax systems with two sets of rules.

• David Paddison, with Seacrest Partners, suggests employers who can crack “the millennial code” of their younger staffers can create a place where they and the rest of their “old school” employees will flourish.


Brennan Wasden & Painter receives first-tier ranking

Regional law firm Brennan Wasden & Painter LLC was recognized recently in U.S. News-Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” 2015 report with first-tier rankings in six practice areas.

Brennan Wasden & Painter, with offices in Savannah and Augusta, has received the distinction for five consecutive years.

Armstrong, Savannah State co-sponsor ethics symposium

Armstrong State University and Savannah State University will co-host a special presentation Thursday night on ethics and fraud in today’s workplace.

Presenters at the symposium titled “Creating a More Ethical Culture in the Workplace” will include Andrew Mudrinich, assistant professor of accounting at SSU; Rick McGrath, professor of economics at Armstrong; and Kelly Crosby, senior director-internal audit of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System.

The event, which will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm St., is free and open to the public.
