Kroger offers fundraising push for food bank

Kroger customers from now through Dec. 24 can buy $1, $3 or $5 icons to help provide food for area families in need. All donations collected at the 11 stores in the Savannah area will benefit America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.

“The Can Hunger initiative provides Kroger customers and associates with the opportunity to help families in their community during the holiday season,” said Kroger spokesman Glynn Jenkins. “Every small monetary donation largely impacts our ability to feed those who are less fortunate within the community.”

 

Hilton Head among ‘rising destinations’

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Hilton Head Island has been named a “2015 Rising Destination for Meetings” by ConventionSouth magazine. The editors announced their 2015 list with Hilton Head Island named among the top 10 destinations selected to be on the national list. Other destinations included Jekyll Island and Winston-Salem, N.C.

The destinations were selected based on research on destinations across 16 states in the South and the Caribbean.

Hilton Head Island was recognized for enhancing the traveler experience with amenities that increase the level of appeal for groups and meeting planners. The destination will be highlighted in the December issue of ConventionSouth.

 

Georgia Tech-Savannah to host workshop for vets

The Georgia Tech Center for Career Discovery and Development will provide resume and interview tips to active duty and recently separated veterans during a four-hour workshop on the Georgia Tech-Savannah campus.

The free workshop is to help service members and veterans make the transition to the civilian workplace, Lanie Damon, senior career development advisor for the center, will discuss how to “civilianize” a resume and prepare for a successful interview.

The session is from 1-5 p.m. Dec. 4 at Georgia Tech-Savannah, 210 Technology Circle.

Taste of Season tickets on sale on Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Taste of the Season tickets are on sale now for the 25th annual culinary event that will feature more than 35 of the area’s top chefs and restaurants, vying for the honor of “Best Cuisine.”

Presented by the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, the event is from 6-9 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Hilton Head Marriott Resort and Spa.

Tickets are $55 and chamber Patron Tickets are $75. They’re on sale at the chamber’s Bluffton office and online at HiltonHeadBlufftonChamber.org.
