Children with sensory concerns to meet Santa
Children with autism and similar sensory concerns will get a chance to meet with a “Compassionate Santa” on Saturday at the Savannah Mall.
The event will be held from 8-10 a.m. on the lower level of the mall near the soft play area. The morning meeting is designed for these children and will provide an atmosphere free from the usual lighting, music and over-stimulating mall surroundings that prevent an enjoyable visit with Santa.
Each child will receive a 5-by-7-inch photo. For questions or more information, call 912-927-9663.
“All children deserve to have special time with Santa,” said Savannah Mall general manager Phil McConnell. “We want to offer everyone a chance to meet the big man in the red suit, including those children with different abilities.”
Memorial awarded Mattel Children’s Foundation grant
The Mattel Children’s Foundation, together with the Children’s Hospital Association, has awarded The Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center a $15,000 grant.
The funds will be used to bring the healing power of play to hospitalized children through the creation of the Parent Infant Play Program (PIP Program). The Children’s Hospital is one of eleven children’s hospitals across the country to receive a Mattel Play Grant.
“With this generous gift, we can create a unique, age-appropriate play program for children from birth to age 2 and their parents,” said Bill Lee, vice president of The Children’s Hospital and chief strategy officer at Memorial Health. “The program will help very young children and their families cope with a range of issues including illness, hospitalization, and surgery.”
