Local gas prices drop below $2.65 a gallon
Average retail gasoline prices in Savannah have fallen 5.3 cents a gallon in the past week to $2.62 a gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 262 gas outlets in Savannah.
The national average has fallen 6.7 cents a gallon in the last week to $2.69, according to gasoline price website
GasBuddy.com.
Prices Sunday in Savannah were 68.1 cents a gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 20.1 cents a gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased 25.4 cents a gallon during the last month and stands 57.2 cents lower than one year ago.
“So large are the declines and so low the prices that Americans are now saving over a quarter billion dollars daily versus prices a year ago, some 60 cents every gallon,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.
How long will the decline and low prices last?
“Don’t worry. It’s not over yet,” DeHaan said.

Produce company to create 300 jobs in Clayton County
Castellini Group of Companies, one of the largest fresh-produce distributors in the United States, will develop a large-scale fresh-cut fruits and vegetables processing and produce distribution center in Conley, Gov. Nathan Deal announced Monday.
The company said it will invest $52 million in the project and expects to create 300 jobs.
The company will build a facility to process and distribute produce to leading wholesale, retail and food service customers on the East Coast. The new distribution center in Georgia strengthens the firm’s position in the Southeast, enabling it to reach 80 percent of the U.S. market within a single day’s truck drive.
Site preparation for the 180,000-square-foot facility has begun, and it’s slated to open in September 2015.
