Panel discussion to discuss home/work balance

The Edel Caregiver Institute — in conjunction with the National Alliance for Caregiving, ReACT (Respect a Caregiver’s Time) and Pfizer — have invited senior human resources personnel, policy makers and working caregivers to a breakfast meeting and panel discussion on the challenges facing today’s workforce and employers to balance work and family caregiving.

Panelists include Kathy Love, president of Savannah Technical College; Dr. Kathleen Benton, director, clinical ethics, St. Joseph’s/Candler; working caregiver Debbie Burnette and others.

The session will be 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm St.

Senior Citizens, Inc. launches annual blanket drive

Senior Citizens, Inc., a local nonprofit dedicated to helping area seniors age successfully, will kick off its annual blanket drive at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5 at the Starbucks in Twelve Oaks Shopping Center on Abercorn Street.

The community is invited to help seniors stay warm this winter by donating a new blanket. People can drop their blankets at SCI’s headquarters between 8:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, throughout The Landings or at any participating Starbucks.

Donors will receive a coupon for a free Starbucks coffee in exchange for the donated blanket. The blanket drive ends Jan. 31.

Seniors who need an extra blanket are invited to drop by SCI’s headquarters to pick one up during regular business hours. Please bring photo ID and proof of income. Low-income applicants only please.

Classes target business legal checklists

A class scheduled by the University of Georgia’s Small Business Development Center for Wednesday, Jan. 14, will address a legal checklist for success as you grow your business.

The session will be 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. with breakfast served at 7:30 in the HunterMaclean Savannah office, 200 E. Saint Julian St.

Instructors will discuss how to strengthen agreements and other agreements you should consider putting in place.

The event is free, but registration is required and class size is limited. To register, visit georgiasbdc.org and click on “register for a class.”
