South University to host Lean Six Sigma seminar

South University will host a Lean Six Sigma seminar for business professionals on campus from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 7.

Lean Six Sigma is designed to streamline operations and improve margins and customer satisfaction while reducing waste and eliminating defects.

Participants who complete the day’s course work and score at least 80 percent on the certification examination will receive Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification of Completion.

The event is presented by Riverwood Associates. Peter J. Sherman, a partner at Riverwood Associates, will lead the workshop.

The event is open to the public. Standard registration is $385, but South University alumni, students and employees will receive a reduced fee of $295. The fee includes coursework, an exam and lunch.

Home and garden show to open at convention center

The Annual Low Country Home & Garden Show will be Friday, Feb. 6, through Sunday, Feb. 8 at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center.

The show will include more than 4,000 square feet of do-it-yourself seminars, gardens, landscapes, countertops, cabinets, home security, interior design and home improvement displays.

John Gidding, who’s featured on HGTV’s “Curb Appeal” and “Designed to Sell” will conduct seminars during the show.

Tickets are $8 for adults 17 and up; seniors 65 and older pay only $6. That includes access to all events, seminars and discussions during the weekend. Active duty military and children under the age of 17 get in free.

The expo will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8.

Georgia Southern to offer HR seminars

STATESBORO — Georgia Southern University will offer human resources seminars at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah and at HunterMaclean Brunswick in February and continuing through May.

Anyone who completes the Legal Awareness in the Workplace (LAW) seminar will receive 1.5 credit hours toward a Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), or Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) re-certification that complies with the rules of the Human Resources Certification Institute.

The fee is $59 for individuals and $55 each for four or more per firm. The course instructors are partner attorneys in the Savannah office of HunterMaclean.
