Home prices in Savannah increase

December 2014 saw a 1.7 percent uptick in home prices in Savannah, including distressed sales, compared to December 2013, according to property information firm CoreLogic.

On a month-over-month basis, Savannah area home prices, including distressed sales, decreased by 2.8 percent in December 2014 compared to November 2014.

Excluding distressed sales, year-over-year prices increased by 2.4 percent in December 2014 compared to December 2013. On a month-over-month basis, excluding distressed sales, the CoreLogic HPI indicates home prices in greater Savannah decreased by 1.9 percent in December 2014 compared to November 2014.

Nationally, home prices, including distressed sales, increased 5 percent in December 2014 compared to December 2013. This change represents 34 months of consecutive year-over-year increases in home prices nationally.

On a month-over-month basis, home prices nationwide, including distressed sales, fell by 0.1 percent in December 2014 compared to November 2014.

Atlantic Coast Financial reports 4Q earnings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Atlantic Coast Financial Corp. (NASDAQ: ACFC), the holding company for Atlantic Coast Bank, reported Monday that net income for the quarter that ended Dec. 31 improved to $0.4 million or $0.03 per diluted share from a net loss of $6.9 million or $1.05 per diluted share for the year-earlier quarter

Net income improved to $1.3 million or $0.09 per diluted share for the year ended Dec. 31 versus a net loss of $11.4 million or $3.23 per diluted share for 2013.

“We are very pleased to have concluded 2014 with a solid performance in many key areas of our business,” said John K. Stephens, Jr., president and chief executive officer. “One of the most attractive signs of our stronger operational platform … was the renewed expansion of our loan portfolio, which grew progressively throughout the year to end 2014 with an increase of 24 percent.”

Stephens said the banks well positioned to extend its success into 2015.

Tourism video features Savannah outlets

Three Savannah establishments — Leopold’s Ice Cream, The Collins Quarter and The Florence — are featured in Georgia Tourism’s first Culinary Explorer video.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development brought food writer Kate Parham Kordsmeier to Savannah with a video team to capture culinary video content.

The two-minute video “Where to Eat in Savannah” will serve as a promotional tool for Georgia’s tourism marketing arm, Explore Georgia, and will be featured on ExploreGeorgia.org.

The video content will also be featured on Explore Georgia’s social media channels, which have a combined audience of more than 300,000 engaged followers.
