Savannah Music Festival receives $20,000 grant
The CMA Foundation has awarded a $20,000 grant to the Savannah Music Festival to support the implementation of Musical Explorers, a pilot program of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute adapted by the Savannah Music Festival to serve the students of greater Savannah.
Ryan McMaken, marketing and managing director of the music festival, says the grant is the first the organization has received from the CMA Foundation, a charitable offshoot of the Country Music Association.
Musical Explorers is designed to teach children in grades K-2 about their local communities and indigenous musical traditions through lessons that integrate music into general classroom studies.
More than 9,500 students at 59 schools are benefitting from the program.
The Savannah area program will continue throughout the spring and will culminating in final concerts for the students at Armstrong’s Fine Arts Auditorium May 11-15.
Altogether, the CMA Foundation’s annual donation for music education for 2015 will total $1.66 million divided among 13 charitable groups.
Landmark Hospital of Savannah sold for $20.2 million
Carter Validus Mission Critical REIT Inc. announced Monday it has bought the Landmark Hospital of Savannah property at 800 E. 68th St. for $20.2 million.
Landmark Hospital of Savannah is a 48,184-square-foot, 50-bed long-term acute care hospital. Primary services include the long-term treatment of patients who need specialized intensive or acute care.
Carter Validus also announced it has bought the Alpharetta Data Center II property for $56.7 million.
Alpharetta Data Center II is a 165,000-square-foot enterprise data center facility located in Alpharetta. It was built in 1999 to serve as the primary operations center for a financial services company.
“The addition of both the Alpharetta Data Center II and the Landmark Hospital of Savannah properties is representative of our commitment to acquire high-quality, mission critical assets in the health care and data center industries,” said John Carter, CEO of Kansas City-based Carter Validus.
Former navy secretary to address chamber luncheon
The Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its 2015 Military Update Luncheon with former U.S. Secretary of the Navy Will Ball on Thursday at noon at the Hyatt Regency Savannah.
Ball served as Secretary of the Navy under President Ronald Reagan, and Gov. Nathan Deal appointed him to lead the Governor’s Defense Initiative in 2012. At the luncheon, Ball will discuss the state’s military defense strategy as well as federal defense initiatives.
