Floor & Decor, an Atlanta-based specialty retailer of hard-surface flooring and accessories, opens its first Savannah store at 7 a.m. today and will celebrate this weekend with a “Super Saturday” community event at its new location.
Established in 2000, Floor & Decor offers ceramic, stone, tile, wood and laminate flooring.
“We only sell hard-surface flooring products, which allows us to keep everything we sell in stock,” said Josh Moore, Savannah store manager. “We know what we’re good at and stick to that.”
A veteran of eight years in management with Floor & Décor, Moore previously ran the Richmond, Va., store.
“I told my wife early on that, if we ever open a store in Savannah, I want to be there,” he said. “Savannah is such a beautiful city, and people there understand and appreciate the importance of good customer service.”
Moore will lead a starting staff of 40 employees at the new store, including an on-staff designer and a team dedicated to its professional customers.
“We want those busy contractors to be able to find what they need and get in and out in an efficient manner,” he said.
The 68,000-square-foot retail store and design center, across the street from Whole Foods near the intersection of Victory Drive and the Truman Parkway, is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
While today’s opening includes coffee and scones from the Sentient Bean coffeehouse, Friday’s local flavor will come from River Street Sweets’ popular pralines.
The Super Saturday event will feature the Naked Dogs food truck, face painting, remote-control NASCAR-style racing for the kids, and — in honor of the opening of the company’s 50th store — a contest that will give the first 200 adult shoppers the chance to win
$250,000 in cash.
“Although Floor & Decor is new to the Savannah area, our brand was actually founded in Georgia,” Moore said. “In fact, our founder, Vincent West, is retired now and living on Isle of Hope in Savannah.”
Laurie Clark, marketing director for the company, said the Savannah grand opening marks the fifth store in Georgia and 50th nationwide for Floor & Décor.
“For the past 15 years, we have provided homeowners, contractors and remodelers around the country with professional expertise and top-notch products, including the largest in-stock selection of hard-surface flooring, at the best-possible prices,” she said. “We’re thrilled to now bring our array of outstanding products and services close to home.”
Tom Taylor, Floor & Décor CEO, said Savannah was the logical place for the company’s 50th store.
“Our roots are in Georgia, and it’s natural for us to grow here in our home state,” he said. “Our buyers are sourcing products from around the globe that are selected specifically for the Savannah market.”
The company is proud of the fact that — in all but one of its 50 stores — it has searched out existing footprints, often in areas that need a boost, Moore said. This is Floor & Décor’s first retail store in the area, but the company has maintained a distribution center in Port Wentworth for a number of years.
“Many of our products come in from all over the globe,” he said. “So, in a way, we’ve always had roots in Savannah,
“Now we can show off what we do best.”

ABOUT THAT CONTEST
The contest begins Saturday morning at noon, but customers can get in line when the store opens at 9 a.m. The first 200 shoppers 18 and older ll have the chance to roll a set of custom dice that spell out the word “F-L-O-O-R-S.” If any contestant rolls:
• Any four letters, they win a $100 merchandise card to Floor & Décor
• Any five letters, they win a $1,000 merchandise card to Floor & Décor
• All six letters to spell FLOORS, they win the grand prize of $250,000.
The promotion runs until 200 people have attempted the contest, or until 2 p.m., whichever occurs first.
