Savannah Technical College culinary arts students received top honors at the American Culinary Federation Southeastern Regional Conference on Feb. 15-17 in Baltimore.
Savannah Tech’s Culinary Arts Knowledge Bowl team earned a gold medal by winning the Baron H. Galand Culinary Knowledge Bowl Southeast regional competition.
Team members were Ashley Del Rosario, Bonni Flora, Brenda Blazowski, Pulkit Chawla, Jenn Case, Dylan Kennedy (coach) and Devin Feitz.
The team will be among the final four who will compete at the culinary federation’s national competition in Orlando from July 30–Aug. 3. This marks the fourth year Savannah Tech will send a student team to compete at the national convention.
The team of second-year culinary/baking and pastry students has been training twice a week for the past six months, said Jean Vendeville, head chef of the culinary arts department.
“This team has become as good as they are due to their hard work. We look forward to the national competition,” he said.
The team was undefeated after competing against five other teams in the southeastern region. The competition includes sensory questions, hidden pictures and culinary, baking, nutrition, sanitation and math questions.
