AFP Coastal Georgia honored as Ten Star chapter
The Association of Fundraising Professionals Coastal Georgia Chapter has been named a 2014 Ten Star chapter.
Chapters receive the Ten Star award for performing specific activities designed to increase professionalism within fundraising and public awareness of the importance of philanthropy. Of the 238 chapters in AFP, 86 received the 2014 Ten Star Award.
Andrew Watt, president and CEO of AFP, said the Coastal Georgia chapter is playing a key role in promoting ethical and effective fundraising.
Chapter president Bill Sorochak, executive cirector of the Ronald McDonald House, credited continued support from local AFP membership and an executive committee led by last year’s president, Megan Kerley, for the organizaation’s success.
Scholarships available through Kids Who Care
The Junior League of Savannah is accepting applications for scholarships for graduating high school seniors through its Kids Who Care program.
The program is designed to salute high school seniors who have made a positive difference in the lives of others by volunteering, and $5,000 in college scholarships are available to local seniors in recognition of their volunteer service and community involvement.

Financial advisor changes location
Edward D. Jones financial advisor Chris Hoover has moved from an office on Wilmington Island to a new location on Skidaway Island at 15 Lake St, Suite 260, Lake Side Center.
Hoover has been with Edward Jones since 2007 in the Wilmington Island office.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication-public relations from Texas State University and is an active U.S. Army reservist with combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Lecture scheduled on malware and cyber threats
Georgia Tech-Savannah’s Learning Series will feature a lecture on “Malware and the Modern Cyber Threat Landscape.”
The seminar will provide a broad, malware-oriented overview of the modern cyber threat landscape. It will be held Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Georgia Tech-Savannah campus at 210 Technology Circle.
Paul Royal, a research scientist in the College of Computing at Georgia Tech and associate director of the Georgia Tech Information Security Center, will conduct the seminar. As an active member of the information security community, his efforts have led to the takedown of large botnets and the arrest of their operators.
