Savannah tourism boosters win marketing awards
Visit Savannah, the Savannah Sports Council and Visit Tybee together won four awards in the Georgia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus’ Best Ideas Competition last week.
The awards were voted on and announced at the agency’s winter conference Feb. 24 in Valdosta.
“These top honors underscore the creativity and hard work being done by everyone on our Visit Savannah, Visit Tybee and Savannah Sports Council teams,” said Joseph Marinelli, Visit Savannah president. “Our entire staff takes great pride in having been recognized by our fellow state tourism leaders from around Georgia as being the best of the best.”
Visit Savannah won in the tourism promotion category for its 2014 holiday campaign and the cooperative marketing campaign category for its three-month campaign that joined forces with the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.
The Savannah Sports Council won in the sports marketing category for its marketing efforts surrounding the Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon launch.
Visit Tybee won in the category for tourism promotion for its #TybeeLife summer photo contest.

Morning networking session scheduled in Bluffton
BLUFFTON, S.C. — Scotts Meats and The Sippin’ Cow will host the Greater Bluffton Chamber’s March Morning Coffee Networking at 8:30 a.m. Monday.
The discussion will focus on a safe meeting place program the Bluffton Police Department has started for craigslist buyers in light of recent incidents in which potential buyers or sellers have been injured or killed.
The event is free and open to the public.
Wing Zone reopens on Eisenhower
Wing Zone, a drive-through restaurant specializing in chicken wings, has reopened at 1100 Eisenhower Dr. There will be a Grand Opening celebration today with a wing-eating contest for five teams of six people.
The franchise is run by Don Bryan and will employ about 36 workers. The store hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily except Friday and Saturday when it is open until midnight. For more information, call 912-354-8888.
Armstrong State wins branding award
Armstrong State University recently won the Grand Award for Best Branding/Identity Campaign, in recognition of the university’s Start Strong campaign at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Southeast District III Conference in Orlando.
Armstrong graphic designer Michael Lowe accepted the award on behalf of the university at an awards banquet Feb. 17.
The Start Strong campaign was developed by Brenda Forbis, Armstrong’s former director of marketing, in conjunction with the university’s marketing team and Metaleap in Atlanta. Armstrong also earned a second-place Award of Excellence for Outstanding Ad Campaign at the CASE Awards Banquet.
“We recognize the importance of having a consistent brand and work hard to share our marketing messages with target audiences, from prospective students to alumni,” said Armstrong President Linda M. Bleicken.
