New project coming to Buckwalter Place
BLUFFTON, S.C. — Buckwalter Commercial has announced that ground has been broken for a new two-story office building that will open later this year.
Th 5,000-square-foot building next to ACE Hardware is a Main Street USA prototype and features a traditional store front design. Cunningham-Waters of Greenville, S.C., is the developer and contractor for the new building.
“We see many great opportunities in the Bluffton market, and this new office building is something we feel will be a great asset to Buckwalter Place and the community,” said Gabe Waters, co-owner of Cunningham Waters.
The building will be occupied by Kevin Sevier State Farm Insurance Agency and Buckwalter Dental Clinic-Dr. Joel Darrah.

Historic Savannah Foundation earns GuideStar honor
Historic Savannah Foundation, a nonprofit historic preservation organization, has received the GuideStar Exchange Gold participation level, a leading symbol of transparency and accountability provided by GuideStar USA, Inc., the premier source of nonprofit information. This level demonstrates HSF’s commitment to responsible management and internal controls.
To be awarded the GuideStar Exchange certification, HSF had to complete every required field of a nonprofit report page on www.guidestar.org for the gold level of participation.
Starwood honors Spadoni
Mark Spadoni, general manager of The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa, was presented Starwood’s 2014 North American Chief Sales Officer award at the annual Americas Sales Conference in Chicago.
Starwood Hotels and Resorts’ highest award for a property executive, the Chief Sales Officer is annually presented to a general manager who excels in leading the sales performance for their property.
Spadoni, with 15 years of experience leading The Westin Savannah Harbor and 35 years as part of the Westin brand, was nominated and selected for his accomplishments in 2014. These include leading his property to reach record breaking occupancies, resort revenue and market share. His team also exceeded all key group sales performance metrics. He spearheaded the innovative creation and manages partnerships with Bloody Point Resort & Golf Club and The Savannah International Trade & Convention Center. He was an Executive Committee member on the boards of the two leading tourism organizations in Savannah, Visit Savannah and The Tourism Leadership Council.
The award also highlights Spadoni’s drive to create unique experiences and family oriented events for the community. These events helped raise more than $50,000 through the Savannah Harbor Foundation to charities in 2014.
