SCAD wins design award for SCADpads
The Savannah College of Art and Design has announced that its SCADpad micro-housing community on its Atlanta campus has won the 2015 b.o.b. (Best of the Best) Forum Design Award in the residential category at the International Interior Design Association Georgia Chapter’s annual event.
The b.o.b. Awards recognize excellence in design and promote creativity in the Georgia design community.
As part of an effort to address urban housing challenges, SCAD transformed the parking structure of its midtown Atlanta location into a sustainable community featuring three 135-square-foot micro-residences.
Each fully functional and furnished SCADpad unit fits within a standard parking space and includes private outdoor living space.
“The students focused on how well the space was utilized to delight the resident and found unique ways to maximize the 135 square feet to not only make it livable, but to create a work of art,” said Christian Sottile, SCAD’s building arts dean.
