Komen affiliate awards grants to seven nonprofits
The Coastal Georgia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen has announced it will award $359,950 in seven community services grants to fund everything from education to screening and diagnostic services.
The grants will go to:
• Bulloch County Board of Health, $52,345
• Coastal Health District, $59,700
• Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health Care Inc., $60,000
• Hearts and Hands Clinic, $29,302
• Liberty County Health Department, $59,175
• Southeast Georgia Health System-Brunswick location, $60,000
• St. Joseph’s Candler Health System, $39,428
With the latest grants, the organization’s total contribution has reached more than $1.7 million since its inception.
The majority of local funding is generated through the Savannah Race for the Cure, which is scheduled for April 18.
Don Ryan Center of Innovation to host coffee hour
BLUFFTON, S.C. — The Greater Bluffton Chamber of Commerce & CVB will have a coffee networking event at the Don Ryan Center from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 7. The event is free and open to the public, and all participants are encouraged to bring business cards to exchange.
Each person will have an opportunity to speak about his or her business and introduce themselves to the group. There also will be a tour and presentation by David Nelems, director of the Don Ryan Center of Innovation.
The center is an incubator for small-business startups in conjunction with the town of Bluffton and Clemson University. It’s located in the Care Core building at Buckwalter Place.

Hilton Head chamber seeks award nominees
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce is asking for nominations for its small business of the year awards.
This year, the chamber will recognize small businesses in two categories, those with fewer than 10 employees and those with 10 and above. A successful startup of the year award and a young professional award will also be presented.
The awards will be announced during the Small Business Week Luncheon on May 20.
The week also includes Thursday’s Women’s Leadership Tea with keynote speaker Kay Stanley, of Spartina 449, and caps off with a Business After Hours Block Party in Bluffton.
Completed application forms must be received by 5 p.m., Friday, April 24. Applications are available online at hiltonheadblufftonchamber.org and feature a new streamlined format for easy access.
