Health firms join efforts on rehab hospital

HealthSouth Corporation and Memorial Health have begun joint operation of Savannah Rehabilitation Hospital, a 50-bed inpatient facility for patients who have experienced stroke, trauma, brain and orthopedic injuries or other major illnesses or injuries.

The rehabilitation hospital is operating on the Memorial University Medical Center campus at 4700 Waters Ave. while construction continues on a new 50-bed state-of-the-art hospital at 6510 Seawright Drive.

“This hospital provides residents of Savannah and the surrounding areas with continued access to high-quality physical rehabilitative care distinguished by intensive, individualized therapy and advanced technologies,” said Linda Wilder, HealthSouth Southeast Region president.

Maggie Gill, president and CEO of Memorial Health, praised the partnership and its value to the community.

“Our collaboration with HealthSouth allows us to continue as a premier provider of inpatient rehabilitation services while enjoying the benefits of partnering with the nation’s largest rehabilitation hospital company,” Gill said.

Leadership Savannah applications available for 2015-2016 class

Leadership Savannah will accept applications until July 12 for its 2015-2016 class. The yearlong course will be limited to 42 people.

Individuals chosen will be active in business, education, the arts, religion, government, community-based organizations and ethnic and minority groups.

Sessions are expected to begin in September and conclude in June 2016. Participants must attend all of the sessions to graduate. All applicants must go through the selection process and pay full program fees of $2,500. A limited number of $1,000 need-based scholarships are available.

Home increase in Savannah

Home prices, including distressed sales, increased by 5.7 percent in February 2015 compared to February 2014 in Savannah, according to real estate information reporting company CoreLogic.

On a month-over-month basis, home prices, including distressed sales, increased by 1.3 percent in February 2015 compared to a month earlier.

Excluding distressed sales, year-over-year prices increased by 8.2 percent in February 2015 compared to February 2014. On a month-over-month basis, excluding distressed sales, the CoreLogic data indicate home prices increased by 2.2 percent in February 2015 compared to January 2015.

Other highlights as of February 2015:

• Including distressed sales, the five states with the highest home price appreciation were: Colorado, South Carolina, Michigan, Texas and Wyoming.

• Excluding distressed sales, the five states with the highest home price appreciation were: South Carolina, New York, Colorado, Texas and Florida.
