The Savannah Machinery Works of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas was recognized Tuesday as the 2015 Georgia Manufacturer of the Year for medium-sized businesses.
Gov. Nathan Deal presented the award to the plant’s leadership during an event at the Georgia International Convention Center.
The award is presented to manufacturers who demonstrate a high degree of corporate responsibility, provide a positive economic impact on Georgia and who set high marks for workforce excellence.
Earlier this year, a team member of Savannah Machinery Works received the Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Award presented by The Manufacturing Institute in Washington, D.C.
The Savannah Machinery Works, located on the Pooler megasite at the intersection of Interstates 95 and 16, manufactures advanced technology fuel-efficient gas turbines and steam turbines and provides complete gas and steam turbine services.
The facility officially opened in October 2010. It houses more than 440,000 square feet of
high technology manufacturing space and equipment and employes more than 300 people.
“We are honored to be singled out by the state with this award,” said Dave Walsh, the company’s president and CEO. “It confirms our commitment to both the community and to the customers we serve to provide the highest quality and most energy efficient power generation equipment from our key facility here in Georgia.”
