Gas prices jump 8.3 cents in Savannah
Average retail gasoline prices in Savannah have risen 8.3 cents a gallon in the past week to $2.34 gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 262 gas outlets in Savannah.
The national average has increased 6.6 cents a gallon in the last week to $2.45, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
Prices Sunday in Savannah were $1.28.4 cents a gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 5.3 cents a gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 2.4 cents a gallon during the last month and stands $1.21.5 cents a gallon lower than this day one year ago.
“Oil prices saw notable gains last week, rising to new 2015 highs. That translated into some hefty gasoline price increases in some states, while none were left behind. All 50 states saw gasoline prices move higher,” said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst.
SunTrust reports jump in first-quarter income
SunTrust Banks Inc. (NYSE: STI) Monday reported net income of $411 million in the first quarter of 2015, or $0.78 per average common diluted share, a 7 percent per share increase compared to the first quarter of 2014.
Earnings in the prior quarter were $378 million, or $0.72 per average common diluted share, and included a $145 million legal provision expense related to legacy mortgage matters.
Excluding the impact of this expense, adjusted earnings per share for the prior quarter were $0.88.
Total revenues declined 2 percent compared to the prior quarter and the first quarter of 2014 due to a decline in net interest income, but non-interest income increased 3 percent based largely on higher mortgage production-related income

Armstrong State to host farmers market
Armstrong State University will host a farmers market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in front of the Student Union, 11935 Abercorn St.
The Earth Day event, which is free and open to the public, is presented by Armstrong’s Recreation and Wellness Department and the university’s Office of Multicultural Affairs.
Local vendors include Alak’s Georgia Pecans, Frali Gourmet Pastas, Hunter Cattle meats, King of Pops popsicles, Perc Coffee, Seven Willows Soaps and Sweetfield Leather.
Additional highlights include free watermelon and pineapple as well as tables offering healthy recipes.
Live music will be provided by local musician Jason Salzer and various Armstrong students.
Attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food items for a canned food drive, which will be held on-site.
