Business in Savannah in brief

House OKs Savannah harbor deepening money

The U.S. House of Representatives on Friday approved critical funding for the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project and continued maintenance of the Savannah Harbor. The bill provides for $50.4 million total for Savannah, with $29.6 million specifically designated for SHEP and another $21 million for regular harbor maintenance, closely mirroring the request that was in the White House budget, released Feb. 2.

Newly minted Congressman Earl “Buddy” Carter praised the bill’s passage.

“Seeing this project through is one of my top priorities in Congress because it will create jobs, opportunity and prosperity for generations to come,” Carter said in a statement Friday.
