New storage center opens in Port Wentworth

Stop N Stor Self Storage Centers opened its newest self-storage center last week at 8901 Highway 21 in Port Wentworth.

The facility offers nearly 400 climate-controlled and non-climate units and outdoor parking spaces with secure 24-hour gated access. This is the sixth Stop N Stor location in southeast Georgia and the second in Port Wentworth.

The storage center will allow customers to rent a unit and buy a lock 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Stop N Stor will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Port Wentworth Chamber of Commerce and city officials at 10 a.m. Thursday A grand opening event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday will include food and door prizes.

Kroger stores raising money for children’s hospital

From now through May 30, Kroger customers can buy $1 Miracle Balloon icons at checkout to help the company reach its goal of raising $250,000 to support local children’s hospitals.

Money raised at Savannah-area Kroger stores will benefit The Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center, a member hospital of the Children’s Miracle Network.

“Each year, Kroger looks forward to the Children’s Miracle Network fundraiser, which allows our customers and associates to directly help children living in our community,” said spokesman Glynn Jenkins.

Children’s Miracle Network is a nonprofit organization that raises money for more than 170 hospitals nationwide

Facility looking for correctional officers

Coastal State Prison wants to hire about 50 correctional officers for its facility in Garden City and will have a recruiting session from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 29 at the state labor department’s Savannah Career Center, 5520 White Bluff Road.

Veterans are encouraged to apply, and salaries will range from $24,322 to $26,754, based on experience, as well as the number of years the applicant served in the military.

Applicants must be at least 18 and should bring copies of their resume, high school diploma or GED, birth certificate and Social Security cards. Veterans should bring Department of Defense DD214 forms.

Before the recruitment, job seekers must take the COMPASS/SAT/ACT or ASSET assessment test at Savannah Technical College and bring the test results. The test costs $25, and jobseekers may apply online at www.gdcjobs.com.

The employer will conduct a background check, drug-screening test and physical fitness test for selected applicants.
