Local United Way gets high rating
United Way of the Coastal Empire has earned Charity Navigator’s four-star rating for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability for the fifth consecutive year.
Charity Navigator evaluates the financial health, accountability and transparency of America’s largest charities.
A four-star rating indicates a charity adheres to good governance and other best practices and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way.
“Our United Way is honored to be recognized for this national distinction,” said President and CEO Gregg Schroeder. “The high standards established by our board of directors and carried by the professional staff within the organization makes this award very noteworthy, especially as we celebrate our 75th year of improving lives in our community.”

International Paper still No. 1 in its category
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — International Paper (NYSE: IP), which has had a plant in Savannah for 75 years and employes 610 people here, has once again been named by Fortune magazine as the No. 1 company in the forest and paper products sector according to Fortune’s annual report of “America’s Most Admired Companies.”
This is International Paper’s 10th time in the last 11 years to top the Fortune list within this category. International Paper took the top spot in seven of the nine key attributes on which companies are judged within its industry.
Those categories included, people management, quality of management, financial soundness, quality of products and services, global competitiveness, use of corporate assets and innovation.
General Dynamics board increases dividend
FALLS CHURCH, Va. — The board of directors of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) — parent company of Savannah-based Gulfstream Aerospace — Wednesday declared a regular quarterly dividend of 56 cents per share on the company’s common stock, payable May 10 to shareholders of record on April 12.
The dividend represents a 9.8 percent increase from the previous quarterly dividend of 51 cents per share. This is the 16th consecutive annual dividend increase authorized by the General Dynamics board.
