Downtown business group to host exec

Greg Parker, the president and CEO of Parker convenience stores, will be the speaker today for the monthly meeting of the Savannah Downtown Business Association (SDBA).

Networking will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the program to follow at noon in the Gibbons Room at The Lady and Sons Restaurant, 102 W. Congress St.

The cost for those who haven’t pre-registered is $35 for members and $40 for non-members.

Budget cuts and buy local on breakfast agenda

HINESVILLE – Southeast Friends of Fort Stewart and Hunter, in conjunction with the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce, will host an eggs and issues breakfast on Thursday at 8:30 a.m.

The breakfast will be held at Liberty Country School System Transportation Complex Bus Barn on Airport Road, 100 Technology Drive. It will include an hour-long discussion on the correlation between sequestration and shopping local.

Speakers will include Mayor James Thomas; Brooke Childers, district representative for U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston; Marcus Sack, Simonton & Associates Inc; and George Holtzman, co-owner of Coldwell Banker Holtzman.

LMI announces 2012 financial results

ST. LOUIS — LMI Aerospace Inc. (Nasdaq:LMIA), which has a manufacturing operation in Savannah, announced fourth-quarter and annual financial results Tuesday. LMI provides design engineering services and supplies structural assemblies, kits and components to the aerospace and defense markets, including Gulfstream and Boeing.

For 2012, net sales were $278.6 million versus $254.0 million in 2011. Net income was $16.5 million compared to $16.4 million in 2011. Last year’s results include a pre-tax charge of $5.4 million for acquisition costs and $0.6 million to write off deferred financing fees.

Net sales for the fourth quarter of 2012 increased 10.6 percent to $71.9 million, compared to $65.0 million in 2011. Net income for the quarter was $1.0 million, compared to $4.1 million in 2011.

“LMI benefited from increased production rates and new awards on Boeing and Gulfstream models, as well as engineering services awards on the Learjet 85, the Boeing 787 and the Boeing KC-46 tanker,” said CEO Ronald S. Saks.

Ribbon-cutting set for vegetarian eatery

VegHeads Savannah, a new vegetarian restaurant at 35 Whitaker St. in the historic district, will hold a ribbon-cutting celebration from 11 a.m. until noon on Thursday, March 28. Samples of the restaurant’s food will be available, and it will be open for lunch.
