Speed mentoring conference available for small businesses

Small business owners are invited to attend the Speed Mentoring Conference on April 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Savannah Morning News Auditorium, 1375 Chatham Parkway.

Executives will share their tips on a variety of business skills, techniques and practices. Cost is $19.95. The conference is sponsored by SCORE, University of Georgia Small Business Development and the Savannah Morning News. RSVP at www.savannah.score.org or 912-652-4335.

“The conference is an invaluable opportunity for small business owners to learn about a variety of topics, to ask questions and network with top executives and professionals who have decades of experience in the small business field,” said Marjorie Young, president of the Savannah chapter of SCORE.

Keynote speaker Lydia Ramsey, an international business etiquette expert, is the president and founder of the Savannah-based firm Manners That Sell. Her talk is titled “Eat, Greet and Tweet: Nine Business Etiquette Tips To Grow Your Business.”

Ramsey has produced four training videos, including “Dining for Profit,” which was featured in the Wall Street Journal as one of the top four training videos on business dining.

Participants will have 25 minutes to meet with expert consultants on each subject.

Mentors who will be available include:

• Kyle Hansel, area director, Small Business Development Center on the language of online marketing;

• Jesse Buskar, CEO, Sysconn New Media, on effective online marketing;

• Noah Vaughn, social media web design specialist, on S/M effective business strategy;

• Connie Edwards, Small Business Development Center, on building a winning business plan;

• Chuck St. Arnaud, former CEO of Sysconn Systems, on finding your niche;

• Stephen George, business development specialist, Small Business Assistance Corporation, on finding the money;

• Allen Torpie, former SCORE district director, Georgia, on cash flow-business lifeblood;

• Lynn Vos, Vos Consulting, on pricing for profit;

• Diana Morrison, founder and president, Advertising and Specialty Services, on customer service do’s and dont’s;

• Stacy Jennings, marketing director, Savannah Morning News, on tips for advertising.

The cost is $19.95 apiece and $9.95 for additional parties from the same organization; it includes the mentoring sessions, lunch and keynote presentation.
