St. Patrick’s Day drives wireless usage
ALPHARETTA — The St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Savannah continues to be one of the highest usage events for Verizon Wireless customers in Georgia with more than 1.8 million LTE connections throughout the day, the company says.
Savannah also saw the highest growth in data usage of any city in the state in 2012, according to Verizon officials.
Over the course of the year, company officials say, Verizon invested more than $180 million in network enhancements across Georgia, and its ongoing network investment in the state totals more than $2.1 billion since the company was formed in 2000.
“Georgia’s consumers and businesses now have the ability to work at significantly faster speeds and with improved responsiveness, changing the way they live, work and play,” said Jonathan LeCompte, Georgia/Alabama president for Verizon Wireless.
During 1912, the company installed 4G LTE network coverage in 251 new cities and towns across Georgia to bring the total number covered to 445 as wireless 4G LTE data traffic increased more than 500 percent year-over-year in the state.

Corps of Engineers overhauls public website
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District has unveiled a newer version of its website as part of a Web upgrade for the entire Corps of Engineers. Although the site features an updated appearance, the Web address remains the same: www.sas.usace.army.mil.
Users who have bookmarked pages other than the home page will need to update their bookmarks or favorites. The upgrade moves the Savannah district’s website into a cloud-based system, which allows the corps to create a consistent look and feel on its web pages, streamline content management and deliver audio, video and other web elements.
Website users can submit questions, feedback or concerns regarding the website to cesas-cco@usace.army.mil.
