KATHLEEN MERRIGAN

New job title: Dean for curriculum and special projects

Company: Savannah Technical College

Duties: Merrigan is responsible for assessing the quality of curriculum within all academic divisions, the college’s “Complete College Georgia” initiative and maintaining accreditation status for the college’s academic programs.

Related work experience: Merrigan joins Savannah Tech with more than a decade of higher education experience from Pacifica Graduate Institute located in Carpentaria, Calif.

Education: Merrigan holds a doctorate of philosophy in education with a specialization in leadership for higher education from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn.

JOE DRAKE

New job title: Vice president, real estate and facilities

Company: Gulfstream Aerospace Corp.

Duties: Drake will continue to oversee the company’s real estate transactions, including construction and development projects, as well as the worldwide implementation of Gulfstream’s facility master plan.

Related work experience: Drake served as director, real estate, Gulfstream. Earlier, he was executive vice president at Orr Partners in Falls Church, Va. Drake has more than 32 years of experience in the design and development of commercial, industrial and residential building projects.

Education: Drake received a
Bachelor of Arts degree in history and pre-law from the University of Kentucky.

MATT CLEMENTS

New job title: Director of marketing

Company: Enmark Stations Inc.

Duties: Clements will oversee all aspects of marketing for the company, including inside sales, merchandising, category management, branding and advertising.

Related work experience: Clements was director of marketing at Friendly Express Inc. in Waycross.

Education: Clements received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Georgia.

SOUMYA REDDY NERAVETLA

New job title: Cardiothoracic surgeon

Company: St. Joseph’s/Candler

Duties: In addition to standard cardiothoracic surgery, Neravetla specializes in robotic thoracic surgery and transcatheter aortic valve replacement.

Related work experience: Neravetla comes to Savannah after completing a transcatheter aortic valve replacement fellowship at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta.

Education: Neravetla earned her doctor of medicine degree from Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine.

BRENT STUBBS

New job title: Dean of adult education

Company: Savannah Technical College

Duties: Stubbs is responsible for establishing adult education programs for individuals and employers, promoting the program to public and private organizations and overseeing administration for assessment and placement test for all adult education students.

Related work experience: Stubbs managed the GED and English for Speakers of Other Languages classes for Lake Technical Center in Eustis, Fla.

Education: Stubbs holds a MBA from Brenau University with an emphasis in leadership.

ALEX GOZZOLA

New job title: Affiliate coordinator

Company: Lowcountry Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Duties: Gozzola will be responsible for general office management and event coordination and support.

Related work experience: Gozzola has more than four years of experience working with nonprofits. She was also an electronic warfare signal intelligence analyst in the United States Army until 2006.

Education: Gozzola received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the College of Charleston.

HONORS/AWARDS

Colonel assumes command

Col. James “Keith” Edenfield has been named the new Commander of the 165th Airlift Wing, Georgia Air National Guard. The 165th AW is based at the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport. Edenfield assumes command of more than 900 personnel, eight C-130H2 Cargo Aircraft and other assets.

Lieutenant promoted

Lt. Darin Jackson of the 165th Airlift Wing, Georgia Air National Guard at Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport, has been promoted to captain. He is a staff chaplain with the 165th AW. His job includes religious commendation and as a moral and ethical adviser to the command staff, officers and airmen of the unit.

Airman honored

Senior Airman Ray Mason has been named airman of the quarter for second quarter 2012 for the 165th Airlift Wing, Georgia Air National Guard. Mason serves as a vehicle maintenance technician for the 117th Air Control Squadron.

Sergeant retires

Senior Master Sgt. Janice Gordon served as the base level knowledge operations management functional manager for the 165th Airlift Wing, Georgia Air National Guard at Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport. She recently retired after 39 years of service.

Insurance agent honored

Timothy L. Waters from the Savannah General Office of New York Life Insurance Co. has received the New Organization Agent of the Year Award. This award recognizes an agent within his/her first four years with the company who has achieved the top production or first year sales commissions among all new organization agents at the Savannah general office within a calendar year.

Georgia Southern appoints board members

Georgia Southern University President Brooks Keel has named two new members to the Herty Advanced Materials Development Center Advisory Board.

The new members are:

• R. Timothy “Tim” Evans, president of Evans General Contractors

• Larry Montague, president and chief executive officer of TAPPI

SCAD student honored

A Savannah College of Art and Design graduate student has earned recognition and a scholarship for innovation in jewelry design and manufacturing. Jiarui Lu was honored with the Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America 2013 Future of the Industry Award.

Hilton Garden Inn employee honored

Bruce Kimble, a guest service associate for the Hilton Garden Inn Savannah Midtown, was just named a 2012 Spirit of the Garden Award Recipient. The Spirit of the Garden award is presented to employees who exemplify excellence in customer service. It’s the highest award presented to Hilton’s hourly employees.

Statesboro man appointed to board

F. Thomas “Tommy” David of Statesboro has been re-appointed to the Technical College System of Georgia state board. Having served since 2008, David represents the 12th Congressional district. David is a former board member and chair of the board for Ogeechee Technical College.

Ogeechee Technical College employees recognized

Ogeechee Technical College recognized three employees recently. The awards were presented at the college’s spring semester faculty/staff meeting.

Those honored were:

• Melba Williams, Support Staff of the Year award

• John Groover, Leadership award

• Loretta Jane Stanley, Rick Perkins — Instructor of the Year award

Physical therapist earns certification

West Rehab physical therapist Rachel Barcio recently earned a mechanical diagnosis and treatment certification from The McKenzie Institute. Barcio joined West Rehab in 2009 where she works as a physical therapist and focuses on improving clients’ mobility.

Physician serves on health care Panel

Dr. Carl Boyd, a critical care surgeon at Memorial University Medical Center and professor of surgery at Mercer University School of Medicine, was asked to serve on a panel of Georgia health care leaders. The Surgical Health Care Quality Forum Georgia was part of a series of national discussions on how quality improvement efforts enhance surgical patient safety and reduce costs. The series is sponsored by the American College of Surgeons and the American Cancer Society.

Savannah man honored

Derst Baking Company, a subsidiary of Flowers Foods has selected employee Jerry Dobbins as the recipient of its 2012 Flowers Spirit Award. The Flowers Spirit Award recognizes employees who are a positive force at work and in their community. Dobbins is the director of distributor relations for Derst.
