Credit counseling service to help homeowners

HomeSafe Georgia, a program of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, has named Consumer Credit Counseling Service of the Savannah Area Inc. as a regional partner in a new outreach program to help more Georgia homeowners avoid foreclosure.

HomeSafe Georgia is a federally funded program aimed at helping homeowners who are unemployed and underemployed, through no fault of their own, remain in their homes while they search for new employment. The program has helped more than 3,000 individuals and families since the program’s inception in 2011.

The local counseling service will be an access point for the HomeSafe Georgia program and will help eligible homeowners apply for the loans. Counselors will also help homeowners collect and submit tax transcripts, bank statements and other documents needed to complete the application.

Teddy Bear Hospital on tap at Memorial

The Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center will host the 23rd annual Teddy Bear Hospital from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 6 at Parking Deck C on the Memorial campus.

Children 10 and younger are encouraged to bring their favorite teddy bear, stuffed animal or doll through the mock hospital to learn some of the ways hospitals help children feel better. Doctors, nurses and technicians will perform various procedures on the toys, including X-rays, lab tests and surgery.

The idea is to allow children to get a better understanding of how hospitals work and learn about wellness and injury prevention.

Participants will meet representatives from The Children’s Hospital, SafeKids of Savannah, Coastal Pet Therapy, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Reach Out & Read and other organizations.
