Armstrong Atlantic State University and the Technology Association of Georgia will present an event called TechFest 2013 on April 19 as part of a program designed to build a stronger technology community in the area.

The event will also showcase the potential for career development in the technology field available at Armstrong and in Savannah.

Tino Mantella, president and CEO of TAG, will deliver the keynote address with a report on key findings of the 2013 State of the Industry: Technology in Georgia Report.

After his remarks, Armstrong computer science and information technology students will hold a poster and demonstration session to allow the community and local businesses to see how Armstrong’s Department of Computer Science and Information Technology is preparing students for the region’s workforce.

Awards for the three best poster and demonstration sessions will be presented.

During the second half of TechFest, Robert Gregerson, dean of the College of Science and Technology, will give an overview of the university’s WebBSIT degree, an online alternative to the traditional IT degree program. With WebBSIT, students can continue to work while earning a degree that will help them advance their career.

The program will end with business breakout sessions in which leaders from local tech businesses will discuss their companies with attendees.

TechFest will take place from noon-4 p.m. in Armstrong’s Science Center, Room 1405, 11935 Abercorn St. It’s free and open to the public, but advance registration is required.
