Work for nonprofit wins awards

Savannah-based Paragon Design Group’s 2K Strong Appeal animation for local non-profit, AWOL, Inc. (All Walks of Life), has been recognized nationally and has been awarded three silver and one bronze Telly Awards.

The group won four additional bronze awards for motion graphic projects for The War on Stupid, Wicked Opportunities and Sqwincher Squeeze TV Spots. This brings the SCAD-alum company’s total Telly Award count to 18, with four first-place silver and 14 second-place bronze Awards.

The Telly Awards, in their 34th year, honor film and video productions, groundbreaking online video content and outstanding local, regional, & cable TV commercials and programs.

The 2K Strong piece has also been recognized by the dailydoGooder, a website that highlights one excellent cause video every day and Video Infographics, a website for curated motion graphic videos that explain, educate, or inform.

Customers donate to fight muscular dystrophy

ATLANTA – Customers at Kroger’s Atlanta Division stores, including eleven in the Savannah area, donated more than $297,000 from March 17-30 to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The goal was $275,000.

The annual fundraiser encouraged Kroger customers to buy $1 or $5 shamrocks to help MDA send young patients to summer camps and provide comprehensive health care, medical equipment, wheelchairs, support services and clinics to those affected by the nearly 40 forms of neuromuscular diseases.

Blick Art Materials acquires art supplies firm

Blick Art Materials, with 39 retail locations, including one at 318 E. Broughton St., has bought the stock of Utrecht Art Supplies, a 45-store retailer, from Topspin Partners.

Robert Buchsbaum, CEO of Blick and leader of the newly-combined enterprise, said the acquisition gives Blick greater geographic reach for its retail stores.

Topspin Partners managing director Steve Lebowitz said his firm was “glad to have achieved a successful exit for our investors and are proud of the business that Utrecht’s employees have helped to build.”

Credit union offers free real estate seminar

Georgia Heritage FCU members and the public are invited to attend “What You Need to Know about the Current Housing Market,” a free educational seminar slated for Tuesday, April 16, at the Credit Union office. 102 Park Ave., in Pooler.

Traci Amick of Keller Williams Realty will discuss the “ins and outs” of today’s housing market. The seminar is free, and a meal will be provided.
