Exchange in brief

SCAD students, Whole Foods to develop mural

Whole Foods Market and Savannah College of Art and Design have joined forces to host the Savannah Mural Design Challenge, with a kickoff at 5:30 this evening at Alexander Hall, 668 Indian St.

The winning design team will be chosen Saturday, will receive $1,000 and will have their mural installed on the side of the Whole Foods Market on Victory Drive, which is slated to open later this summer.

Student painters, illustrators, graphic designers, industrial designers and animators are invited to compete as individuals or teams of up to three people. Whole Foods will provide design guidelines and aesthetic considerations, and students will have 24 hours to develop their murals.

A jury consisting of Whole Foods Market designers and SCAD Dean of Liberal Arts Robert Eisinger will award prizes to the top three winners.

“We want each store to have its own personality and really reflect the community that we serve,” said Matthew Bird, design coordinator for Whole Foods Market South region. “Working with SCAD on a local level to add this design element is not only fun for us, but it provides some local flare and unique artwork for our store.”
