Georgia Power ceremonially opened its new southside customer service center Tuesday in a ribbon cutting attended by company officials, Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson and Chatham County Commissioner Al Scott.

The office, located on Abercorn Street across from St. Joseph’s Hospital, replaces the power utility’s service center in the Twelve Oaks Shopping Center. The southside office sees between 17,000 and 18,000 customers a month, and the new location features drive-thru service and ample parking, which had become a problem at busy Twelve Oaks.

“We are very pleased to be able to conveniently serve our customers in the fast growing area of Savannah,” said Cathy Hill, Georgia Power’s coastal region vice president.

The new office, known as the Coastal Customer Resource Center, includes a demonstration kitchen. The facility is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
