Georgia Power introduces My Power Usage
Georgia Power announced Thursday it has introduced My Power Usage, a new online program at GeorgiaPower.com that provides customers with information to better manage energy costs and help eliminate billing surprises.
The program is available once customers sign in to their account at GeorgiaPower.com and enables them to view projected monthly bills along with their energy use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Customers also can set up email notifications to alert them when their bill reaches a certain dollar amount, receive energy efficiency tips and view interactive weather graphs on how hot or cold weather may impact energy costs.
Customers can also visit the website to report an outage and check on repair status; start, stop or transfer electrical service; view “how to” videos and learn about programs and rebates for residential and business customers.
Officials warn of potential phone scam
ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Public Health encourages residents to be cautious in responding to health-related telephone surveys.
Residents have complained about suspicious phone calls in which the caller claims to be calling “from the health department,” asks questions on ethnicity and religion and may try to sell goods or services.
The health department uses telephone surveys, officials say, but will never ask for religious or credit card information and will not try to sell goods or services.
To report a call or get more information, contact the agency’s inspector general at 404-656-4688 or inspectorgeneral@dhr.state.ga.us.

Unusual tick found at Port of Charleston
CHARLESTON, S.C. — U.S. Customs agents in Charleston have discovered an unusual tick species at the Port of Charleston.
Steve Switzer of the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol in Charleston says the soft-bodied tick had not been seen before at a port in this country.
The U.S. Agriculture Department says the tick can carry the West Nile virus. It’s usually found on birds in Africa, southern Europe, the Middle East and south-central Asia.
The tick was found in a shipment of work gloves from Pakistan that was sent back to Pakistan.
