Deadline for Telfair Art Fair Artist submissions extended

Telfair Museums have extended the deadline for Telfair Art Fair artist submissions to Friday, June 7.

The 19th annual Telfair Art Fair will take place on Nov. 15-17. Artists are chosen through a blind jury process and are eligible for $12,000 in prizes. Only original art work will be considered.

The Telfair Art Fair, which is free and open to the public, attracts art collectors, tourists and local residents throughout the weekend. Artists’ booths span streets from Telfair Square to Ellis Square.

Artists from across the country will display and sell works in various media including painting, printmaking, drawing/pastel, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics/pottery, photography, furniture, glass, textiles/fiber and mixed media.

City to hold session for women business owners

The city of Savannah minority- and women-owned business enterprise program will host “Women Mean Business 2013” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, at the Savannah Civic Center.

This event will help women identify the tools and services needed to establish or expand their companies. It will include workshops, panel discussions and networking with entrepreneurs, corporations and agency experts.

Meeting set to get involved in food and wine festival

Savannah’s Tourism Leadership Council will host a meeting on Wednesday for businesses and individuals interested in getting involved in the 2013 Savannah Food & Wine Festival.

The meeting will be held at 3 p.m. in the TLC office on the second floor of the administration office of the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center on Hutchinson Island.

The TLC earlier announced plans to expand its annual Taste of Savannah event into the Savannah Food & Wine Festival. Scheduled for Nov. 11-17, the festival will feature celebrity chefs, guest winemakers including Rob Mondavi Jr., cooking demonstrations and competitions for cooks, bartenders and wait staff.

Festival dinners and wine tastings will be held in restaurants around the city, as well as in the downtown streets. The main event, Taste of Savannah, will be based in Ellis Square and will feature food and wine booths, music, chef cooking demonstrations and competitions for bartenders and wait staff.
