Pooler expo set for Thursday
The Pooler Marketplace Expo, scheduled for Thursday, will feature door prizes such as Kindle Fire, Ray-Ban sunglasses and VISA gift cards with Georgia Heritage Federal Credit Union as the event’s gold sponsor.
The event also will feature product samples and giveaways from more than 20 different businesses as well as product demonstrations, free refreshments, and music by Shockwave Entertainment. A cash bar will be available.
The expo will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force, 175 Bourne Avenue, near I-95 exit 102. It’s free and open to the public.

Pet store wins magazine’s award
TailsSpin Pet Supplies Store, with outlets in Savannah, Pooler, and Macon, has been recognized as “2013 Retailer of the Year: Employee Relations and Training” by Pet Product News International Magazine.
This marks the second Pet Product News International Magazine award for TailsSpin. In 2012, TailSpin was the magazine’s “Retailer of the Year: Outstanding General Pet Store.”
Co-owners Jusak Yang Bernhard and Jeffrey A. Manley will attend the awards ceremony in Las Vegas July 23-25.
“It’s an amazing honor to be recognized by our peers in the industry,” said Bernhard.
Manley said marketing is more than just running television and print ads.
“It’s about being involved with the community and delivering what we promise,” he said.
GSU agency gets grant to help rural business
Georgia Southern University’s Bureau of Business Research and Economic Development has been awarded a $295,927 grant by the North American Development Bank to expand Georgia’s Enterprise Network for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (GENIE) project.
GENIE will extend services of the Georgia Southern City Campus and assist entrepreneurs and small business owners in the rural counties of Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Lincoln, Telfair and Wilkes, all of which are defined as designated eligible areas for Georgia.
The developoment bank’s U.S. Community Adjustment and Investment Program was created in connection with the passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement to help new or expanding businesses in communities with significant job losses due to changes in trade patterns.
The five designated counties will receive the guidance and support to create new businesses, grow existing businesses and create a climate that leads to more jobs for area residents.
