Medient Studios announced Wednesday the company will hold a ground-breaking ceremony on Aug. 29 for the 1,550-acre property it’s developing in Effingham County.

The property committee of the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority has approved the master plan for the Studioplex, and a formal lease agreement will be signed on Aug. 19, the company said.

Medient already has begun engineering, clearing and grading of the property.

Manu Kumaran, chairman of Medient, told the property committee his company expects the facility to be functional by the first quarter of 2014.

“We want the Studioplex to be an integral part of the local community, something that the entire community can be proud of,” Kumaran said.
