A 225-foot mural that features landscape and waterways typical to Savannah decorates what had been a bare, concrete barrier wall along the last leg of the Truman Parkway extension.
The mural by artist Katherine Sandoz was commissioned by Jeff Kole, who owns Edgewater Trace apartments adjacent to the barrier wall and ApartmentSavannah.com.
Kole said he sees the mural as a way to enhance apartment residents’ experience by highlighting the beauty inherent to the Lowcountry while camouflaging the concrete wall.
“We saw this as an opportunity to … perhaps, advance the discussion about how public art can enhance the natural beauty of our community,” Kole said.
The Edgewater Trace mural is the third locally permitted project for Sandoz.
“Public arts marry individuals and cement community experiences as they so often represent the celebration of what is universally experienced, introduce new ideas, in new ways, that resonate universally,” said Sandoz.
The mural can be viewed from Edgewater Trace Apartments, 10714 Abercorn Ave.
