Paper manufacturer to create 200 jobs in Bibb County

Kansas City-based Aspen Products Inc., a major private-label paper manufacturer, will invest $13 million to build a manufacturing facility in Macon and create more than 200 jobs, Gov. Nathan Deal announced Friday.

The 200,000-square-foot Aspen Products facility, located in Airport Industrial Park, will manufacture paper plates, cups, bowls and lunch bags. Production for the facility will start in early 2014, and the hiring process has already begun. Anyone who’s interested in applying should contact the Georgia Department of Labor.

“I believe Macon to be a perfect fit for Aspen Products,” said Shannon Walls, the company’s plant manager for its East Coast Division. “We have been welcomed with open arms and made to feel like this new town was full of old friends.”

Aspen Products serves major retailers, private labels and food service companies across the United States and has a large customer base in the Southeast.

Health-care organization named ‘pioneer’

Savannah-based THA Group has been named a “Cardiovascular Pioneer” by the Home Health Quality Improvement National Campaign, an initiative of the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The Pioneer designation is awarded to home health agencies that make a commitment to helping patients lower their risks for heart attacks and strokes. Participating agencies implement patient-centered programs to stop smoking and improve aspirin therapy, blood pressure control and cholesterol management.

“As a cardiovascular pioneer, we will also be measuring our progress and helping contribute to better care for patients, better health for our communities, and lower costs through improvement of the health care system,” said Kathy Piette, vice president of performance excellence.

Chicken of the Sea workers support community

LYONS — Employees at Chicken of the Sea’s processing facility will use their own paychecks to pay it forward in 2014.

Chicken of the Sea will donate more than $10,000 to Lyons-area charities, clubs, emergency services, youth/senior citizens programs and special education after 35 percent of its employees volunteered to give money every pay period in 2014 to improve their community.

“All of us at Chicken of the Sea are inspired by the actions of our Lyons processing facility employees who have volunteered to share their hard-earned dollars throughout 2014 to make their community a better place,” said David Roszmann, COO of Chicken of the Sea.

Chicken of the Sea employs more than 300 people in its Lyons plant.
