Medient Studios, Inc. announced Wednesday that Charles Koppelman, chairman and CEO of CAK Entertainment Inc., has joined Medient as vice chairman of its board of directors.
CAK Entertainment Inc., is a brand development firm that provides advisory work for artists who include Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Nicki Minaj and Adam Levine among others.
Koppelman has served as CEO and chairman of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, chairman and CEO of EMI Records and chairman of Steve Madden. He is a member of the board of directors of Six Flags Entertainment Corp., a director of the Las Vegas Sands Corp.
“Charles is such an important and influential leader in entertainment, and finance. We are honored that he has accepted our invitation to join the board,” said Manu Kumaran, CEO and Chairman of Medient Studios. “He brings great vision and experience to the company and will be a turbo booster in our continuing odyssey.”
Koppelman said that, with his help, Medient Studios will modify what has been a broken and inefficient system for producing movies.

Medient is building a $90 million movie production and entertainment complex on 1,600 acres at Old River Road in Effingham County. Kumaran has said he hopes to be able to make movies at the site by the end of the first quarter of 2014.
