Armstrong professor wins speech award

Armstrong Atlantic State University professor Jean Neils-Strunjas was recently presented with the John “Jack” C. Bess Memorial Award for service to the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Neils-Strunjas donated the award’s honorarium to the Mark R. Finlay Visiting Lecture Series fund at Armstrong, which was created in memory of an Armstrong History professor known for his scholarship, his contributions to the state of Georgia and his integrity.

Teacher to participate in Holocaust seminar

St. Vincent’s Academy teacher Taylor Culjan will attend the 2014 Holocaust and Jewish Resistance Teachers’ summer seminar in Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland. Culjan has taught Holocaust Studies for the past two years at St. Vincent’s Academy and incorporated Holocaust related literature into English classes for the past 10 years.

Humane Society elects McMaken to board

At its January meeting, the Humane Society for Greater Savannah elected Pfeffer McMaken to its board of directors. McMaken brings 14 years of professional experience working in the not-for-profit section.

Telfair curator receives award

Tania Sammons, senior curator of decorative arts and historic sites for Telfair Museums, has been awarded the 2014 Kahlil Gibran International Award for her work on the art of Gibran and his collection housed at Telfair Museums. The award was presented by the Lisa and George Zakhem Kahlil Gibran Chair for Values and Peace at the University of Maryland and the International Association for the Study of the Life and Works of Kahlil Gibran.
