Business in Savannah in brief

Bryan County agency refinances debt

Bryan County taxpayers will save upward of $500,000 under a financial plan recently approved by the Bryan County Board of Commissioners, County Finance Director John Grotheer announced Friday.

Under the plan, Grotheer said, the Richmond Hill location of the Savannah Bank agreed to refinance $10.5 million in debt in the name of The Bryan County Development Authority. The savings will come from a lower interest rate on the long-term debt.

Local bank president Jon Seagraves told commissioners the bank would absorb up to $20,000 in closing costs for each loan to generate additional savings to county taxpayers.

The $10.5 million refinance includes paying off two outstanding loans for the development of the Interstate Center II and Interstate Center III industrial sites located along Interstate 16 at the north end of Bryan County. The county commission will guarantee the debt through an intergovernmental contract between the county and the development authority.

“The refinancing will ultimately save county taxpayers a significant amount of money, and we are pleased one of our local financial institutions, The Savannah Bank, offered us the best rate,” said County Administrator Ray Pittman.

Gulfstream G280 establishes multiple city-pair records

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp.’s super mid-size G280 has added more city-pair records to its list. In less than a month’s time, the G280 set six speed records, bringing its total to 45.

The G280 started its six-record run on Feb. 19 in Dubai, flying 3,202 nautical miles from Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Nigeria, at an average speed of Mach 0.80 for a total flight time of 7 hours and 9 minutes.

“These latest city-pair records show how vital the G280 can be to business in the Middle East and Africa and also how easily it can link Sub-Saharan Africa with the European hub of Lisbon,” said Scott Neal, senior vice president, worldwide sales and marketing, Gulfstream.

Pending approval by the U.S. National Aeronautic Association, the times will be sent to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale in Switzerland for recognition as world records.
