The Georgia Chamber of Commerce rolled out the proverbial red carpet for site consultants this week, giving them a guided tour of Atlanta, Augusta and none other than Savannah to highlight the benefits of doing business in the Peach State.
In its 55th year, the Red Carpet Tour is held in conjunction with the Masters Golf Tournament and is one of the state’s top economic development events, allowing guests to tour three Georgia cities and meet with local business leaders.
According to Angela Hendrix, marketing director for the Savannah Economic Development Authority, past years have given tours to business owners and CEOs, but this year features site consultants.
“These are professionals that work with businesses when they are looking to expand and relocate,” said Hendrix of the tour’s significance.
Hendrix said approximately 32 site selectors were part of the tour this year.
The four-day program, which began Wednesday in Atlanta and continued to the Masters in Augusta concluded Friday and Saturday in Georgia’s first city.
On Friday, participants attended a morning session to hear about business advantages of the region, followed by a tour of Gulfstream Aerospace, a leading business jet manufacturer.
The day continued with recreational activities such as golf and fishing and an evening dinner for local business leaders and officials.
Chris Clark, CEO of the Georgia Chamber, said the event gives important face time to local business leaders to showcase the state’s many advantages.
“One of the Georgia’s premier economic development events, the Red Carpet Tour showcases not only our state and dynamic communities like Savannah, but the public-private partnerships that have grown our economy,” said Clark in a statement.
Clark said the Red Carpet Tour has created $3 billion in revenue and 15,000 jobs in the state since its inception.
