SunTrust bank has named David Camden president and chief executive officer of its Savannah region, which includes Savannah, coastal Georgia and Augusta. Camden replaces Kevin Blair, who came in as region president in March 2011.

As SunTrust’s senior leader in the area, Camden will have responsibility for all SunTrust services, from the investment banking and capital markets capabilities of SunTrust to business and commercial banking clients.

Camden will report to SunTrust Bank division president Gary Peacock.

“With 28 years of experience, David is an accomplished leader with a long track record of team leadership and successfully providing advice to businesses, nonprofit organizations, consumers and high net worth individuals,” Peacock said in a statement released Friday.

“We are confident that he will have a strong and positive impact for our clients and communities in the Savannah region.”

Camden joined SunTrust in 2010 and most recently served as executive vice president in commercial banking. Prior to joining SunTrust, he served as senior vice president of business banking and regional president for the Central Virginia region at Wells Fargo.

He is relocating to Savannah from Richmond.

Camden is a graduate of Hampden-Sidney College and Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia.

Headquartered in Atlanta, SunTrust Banks Inc. (NYSE: STI) is one of the nation’s largest banking organizations. As of Dec. 31, SunTrust had total assets of $175.3 billion and total deposits of $129.8 billion.
