Magazine picks Tybee Island among nation’s favorite beaches

Tybee Island has been chosen as one of America’s favorite beach towns by Travel + Leisure Magazine. It was named No. 18 out of 25 beach communities.

“We’re proud to have been selected as one of America’s favorite beach towns,” said Sara Lane, director of Visit Tybee. “It is a great honor to be recognized in such a prominent publication as a top beach in the country. This recognition is sure to help us attract even more visitors to enjoy the accommodations, restaurants and attractions Tybee has to offer.”

Travel + Leisure named St. Simons Island as the number one beach town; Beaufort, S.C., was number 16 andMyrtle Beach, S.C., was number 23.

Georgia Southern receives four Emmy nods

STATESBORO – Georgia Southern University has received four 2014 Emmy Award nominations from the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The nominations include best student news production, best student production, best sports director and best technical director.

The projects and students that received nominations were “Just Wild” Saving Exotic Animals by Allen Lincoln, AnnNell Byne, Jose Ocampo, Tim Hunt and Jake Taylor; and “Chomp the Gators and Gus in Space” by Allen Lincoln, Sade Thomas, Wilson Brown, Evan Lebish, Robert O’Donnell, Tim Bragg and Cassandra Holmes.

“The work we produced this year for our sports is comparable to large network, Major League Baseball broadcasts,” said Art Berger, director of the Multimedia Development Center.

The winners will be announced June 7 in Atlanta. This year the Southeast Chapter received more than 1000 entries.

Flagship store for Outside Hilton Head celebrates reopening

Outside Hilton Head will host a grand reopening of their newly renovated flagship store in Shelter Cove Plaza today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m,

The event will take place inside as well as outdoors near the store. Highlights will include special vendor displays, selected merchandise discounted up to 25 percent, special giveaways and raffles.

An official ribbon cutting was held Friday.

“We are commemorating not only our new, fresh, larger store but also our thirty-fifth year in business here on Hilton Head. We encourage everyone to come out and party down,” said Mike Overton, Outside Hilton Head founder and CEO.

Several brands carried in the Outside Hilton Head store will have special displays, discounted merchandise and giveaways.
