Heart Association recognizes St. Joseph’s/Candler
St. Joseph’s/Candler has earned the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award.
The award recognizes that St. Joseph’s/Candler patients receive high-quality, evidence-based stroke treatment as recommended by the heart association. Both St. Joseph’s Hospital and Candler Hospital earned the award.
SJ/C’s technology allows neurologists to remotely diagnose and treat stroke patients in eight rural hospitals in southeast Georgia.
“With stroke, time is brain. That is why we’re always committed to providing the most aggressive and proven stroke care available,” said Paul P. Hinchey, president & CEO of St. Joseph’s/Candler.
To receive the award, SJ/C achieved 85 percent or higher on relevant achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with six of eight other measures.
City earns designation as Playful City USA
For the fifth straight year, Savannah is being recognized by the national nonprofit organization KaBOOM! as one of America’s most “playful” cities for its work in elevating the importance of play.
The city of Savannah currently maintains 57 playgrounds, 661 acres of parks, nine public swimming pools and 14 community centers. Savannah also encourages play to be a part of neighborhood and business development plans.
KaBOOM!, in partnership with the Humana Foundation, recognized Savannah along with 211 other cities and towns from across the United States as a 2014 Playful City USA honoree.
KaBOOM!, created Playful City USA in 2007 to help local governments address what it called the play deficit by ensuring their children have the time and space they need to play. The program honors cities, towns and communities across America that are taking bold steps to ensure that all children have easy access to balanced and active play in their communities.
Ministry degree added to South’s curriculum
South University will offer a doctor of ministry degree, which will allow students to obtain an accredited doctoral-level degree in ministry without going through a master’s program.
“This is an affordable option for ministry education and will allow students to earn their doctorate in three years of study, instead of the five years required in traditional programs,” said Robert Redman, dean of the South University College of Theology.
Doctor of ministry classes will begin at the South University, Savannah campus in June. Online classes will begin in the fall. For more information, please visit www.southuniversity.edu.
