Apprentice program recruiting motivated job-seekers

Step Up Savannah’s Chatham Apprentice Program (CAP) is recruiting for the next “E3: Educate, Empower, Employ” job skills training program, scheduled to start on Sept. 22 and run through Oct. 16.

The program is open to men and women who want to develop and enhance their basic employment skills or further their education. It’s free to adults 18 and older through a partnership among Chatham County, Step Up Savannah, Inc. and other community-based organizations. Those without a high school diploma or GED are encouraged to apply. Personal finance and budgeting are also covered.

Successful graduates of the program get help with their job search and one-on-one coaching.

The deadline to apply is Sept. 16. The class will take place at the Housing Authority of Savannah’s Neighborhood Resource Center on Wheaton Street.

Liberty County promotional project recognized

HINESVILLE — The Liberty County Development Authority recently received an award of excellence at the Southern Economic Development Council annual conference for one of its marketing projects.

The award recognized a promotional gift featuring products from several Liberty County industries.

The gifts featured items from International Greetings, a manufacturer of high quality gift wrap and stationery products that employs about 150 in Midway Industrial Park, and tea varieties from Florapharm Tea, a German tea manufacturer whose American distribution operation opened in Hinesville Technology Park in 2012.

“We are honored to receive high recognition in a 17-state competition for a marketing product that features Liberty County business success stories alongside each company’s merchandise,” Liberty County Development Authority CEO Ronald E. Tolley said.

The Southern Economic Development Council has 750 members from organizations in 17 southern states.

 

Memorial named gold partner for organ donation advocacy

Memorial University Medical Center has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for reaching gold level status for its outreach for organ and tissue donation and registration.

Memorial earned gold recognition through the Workplace Partnership for Life Hospital Campaign, a program launched in 2011 by the federal agency’s Health Resources and Services Administration.

Memorial conducted awareness and registry campaigns to educate staff, patients, visitors, and community members about the need for organ, eye and tissue donors, thus increasing the number of potential donors on the state registry.

Currently,123,161 patients in the U.S. are waiting on an organ donation, more than 2,800 of them in Georgia.
