Gas prices rise again in metro Savannah

Average retail gasoline prices in Savannah have risen 5.1 cents a gallon in the past week to $2.20 a gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 262 gas outlets in Savannah.

The national average has increased 4.7 cents a gallon in the last week to $2.29, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Prices Sunday in Savannah were $1.10.4 cents a gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 18.5 cents a gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 26.6 cents a gallon during the last month and stands $1.11.5 cents a gallon lower than a year ago. Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming had the cheapest averages in the United States, with South Carolina taking the fifth spot.

Kelly Services to recruit workers Thursday in Savannah

The Georgia Department of Labor will host the first in a series of recruitments Thursday in Savannah to help a staffing company, Kelly Services, hire 50 workers for the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System.

The first recruitment will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the labor department’s Savannah Career Center, 5520 White Bluff Road. Additional recruitments will be held every Thursday at the same time and location until the positions are filled.

Kelly Services is recruiting custodians and food service workers; salaries are $7.25 an hour.

The company will conduct background checks and drug screenings.

Armstrong professor to discuss economy

As part of its “Moveable Feast” lecture series, Armstrong State University will host a lecture by economics professor Michael Toma at 6:30 p.m. March 5 at The Armstrong House, 447 Bull St.

Toma will argue that a liberal arts education serves as a foundation from which to examine data-based analytical superstructures. He will use data collection and critical thinking to offer a fuller picture of our economy’s performance today and where it is likely headed tomorrow.

The event is free and open to the public.

Health food store opens in Bluffton

BLUFFTON, S.C. — HealthSmart of Bluffton, which specializes in health food, vitamins, supplements, natural products, essential oils and natural pet supplies, has announced they are open for business.

A ribbon-cutting will be held Thursday with the Greater Bluffton Chamber of Commerce.

Healthsmart of Bluffton is in the Belfair Village at 67 Towne Center Drive and is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday–Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sundays.
