Bi-Lo Holdings plans to close two stores in the Savannah area, according to a spokeswoman.

The grocery outlet will close its Sandfly location on Skidaway Road and its Garden City store on Augusta Street by April 22 due to under performance, said spokeswoman Miranda Major.

“(W)e will continue serving our Savannah customers through our other locations with the closest location at 2142 E. Victory Drive,” she said in an email.

Employees will not be relocated to other stores.

The announcement was part of a larger decision by the grocery chain, which includes Winn-Dixie, to close six stores in total this spring as it seeks to streamline its business operations. The retailer closed 23 stores in November.

“While closing under performing stores is never easy, from time to time the successful execution of our strategy also requires us to make the difficult decision to close certain locations so we can reinvest in what matters most for our customers — providing the freshest foods and the best deals,” Major said.

The Jacksonville, Fla.-based company will also close Winn-Dixie stores in two cities in Florida and another in nearby Brunswick.

Bi-Lo acquired Winn-Dixie in 2011, expanding the grocer’s reach from North Carolina to Florida, but both brands have continued to struggle financially. The supermarket’s holding company, Southeastern Grocers, canceled plans for an initial public offering in August of 2014.
