Savannah Tire, a family-owned business headquartered in Savannah, today announced the sale of substantially all assets to Express Oil based in Birmingham, Ala.
The sale will be effective at midnight tonight according to Trey Cook, chief operating officer at Savannah Tire.
“We are pleased to announce the purchase by Express Oil,” Cook said. “The Savannah Tire name, employee and management team will remain the same. Our employees, customers and vendors should see a smooth transition.
“It has been our family’s honor for three generations to serve the community.”
Cook’s family has owned the company, which began as Savannah Tire and Rubber Co., Inc. in 1951. His grandfather, “Kick” Kicklighter, started the company.
In a statement today, Cook and his father, Hurley Cook, described Express Oil as a “quality company.”
“And we hope that our customers give them the opportunity to earn their business,” Trey Cook said. “I expect Express Oil to carry on the Savannah Tire tradition of taking care of our customers and employees.”
Savannah Tire has nine outlets in metro Savannah.
Express Oil, a 34-year-old firm has more than 200 outlets across 13 states, according to its website, expressoil.com.
