Small Business Chamber honors local businesses

Regan Drake of Grand Garages, Scott West of Savannah Master Calendar and Patrick Delarosa of Burster’s Ice Cream were honored Thursday evening at the Small Business Chamber of Savannah’s 2015 awards banquet.

Named the Emerging Business of the Year, Drake’s Grand Garages offers full service garage cleaning, organizing and complete garage makeovers with custom storage solutions, shelving, cabinets, floors and more.

“Imagine someone who can take one of your most daunting tasks — cleaning years of clutter from your garage — and give you a fresh space that is totally organized,” said Don Holland of Joe’s Homemade Café, outgoing president of the chamber and emcee for the event.

Drake’s ability to turn chaos into order is helping Grand Garages thrive, Holland said.

West was recognized as the Small Business Partner of the Year.

“His business is our business,” Holland said. “His weekly publication, which reaches more than 14,000 businesses and individuals, keeps us tuned into all that’s happening in our city, making sure we’re aware of the ‘can’t miss’ events and networking opportunities.”

Delarosa’s Burster’s Ice Cream was named Small Business of the Year.

“Not only do they offer some of the tastiest options in the city, but they

are dedicated to developing young leadership,” Holland said.

This company’s business platform is based on ‘Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders Today.’ Operators are expected to mentor and teach their younger charges the keys to successful entrepreneurship while being active and upstanding members of their communities,” Holland said, calling Bruster’s truly a “scoop above the rest.”

In other business Thursday, the Small Business Chamber installed Connie Edwards of the Small Business Development Center in Savannah as president.

Board members are Jill Evans Aldhizer of Veronica’s Closet, Melvin Dean of Steel the Show, Rob Davis from the city of Savannah, Carol Elkins of Pruitt Health Care Services, Dana Skiljin of Liberty Tax Services and Don Holland of Joe’s Homemade Café.
