Savannah South Rotary Club gives to reading program

The Rotary Club of Savannah South recently made a $1,000 donation for the Live Oak Libraries Summer Reading Program, which will begin June 1.

The gift to help fund the summer reading program is from the Rotary Club’s annual golf tournament and charitable giving program.

“Encouraging literacy is a top priority for our club,” said Doyle Kelley, the club’s president. “This project was brought to us by one of our members, George Hubbs, who is active with the Live Oak Public Libraries Foundation. We are more than happy to support it.”

The program encourages children and teens up to 18 years of age to read during the summer. In return, along with the pleasures of reading, the children and teens can earn rewards and prizes. Last summer, nearly 5,000 children registered for the program.

Landmark Hospital celebrates official launch

Long-term acute care provider Landmark Hospital is celebrating its official operational launch in Savannah this month.

The hospital preliminarily opened in November 2014 to undergo a six-month intensive regulatory process to obtain Medicare certification, which will be achieved on June 1.

With that process finalized, Landmark has announced it is ready to begin operating at full capacity to offer treatment options to medically complex patients.

Landmark Hospital is accredited by Center for Improvement of Healthcare Quality.

“Our initial six months have been highly successful, and we’re now ready to enter the next stage of operations with a full launch of services,” said John Salandi, chief executive officer for Landmark of Savannah.

The 50-bed facility provides expert specialty care to patients who require prolonged hospitalization, usually 25 days or more.

The facility is Landmark’s sixth long-term acute-care hospital.
